On May 24-26, the third round of the Formula Renault Eurocup took place in Monaco. SMP Racing junior driver Alexander Smolyar came second in the Saturday race and won the Sunday race.

Under changeable weather conditions on Friday Smolyar took pole position in his qualifying group. This allowed him to start second in the Saturday race and first on Sunday. Pole position on the grid is of great importance for a successful performance as the Monaco track is famous for being narrow and tricky.

On Saturday, Alexander finished second in the race. On Sunday, the SMP Racing junior driver started from pole position and quickly built a gap from rivals. In the middle of the race, first a yellow flag and later a safety car appeared on the track. Alexander’s gap from the nearest pursuer was reduced to 0.8 seconds, but Smolyar kept the lead on restart and finished in first place.
