SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman finished third in Sunday’s race of the sixth FIA Formula 3 round, which took place in Belgium on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit from August 30 to September 1.

Robert was classified second on Saturday, so on Sunday he started from seventh position, according to the rules of the reverse starting grid. On the first lap of the race, Shwartzman immediately overtook three rivals and moved up to fourth place, however, yellow flags due to an accident between some drivers prevented Robert from making further breakthrough. After the restart, the Russian pursued Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix) for several laps and made a successful move just before the checkered flag, overtaking the Dane and moving up to third position.

Robert Shwartzman, standing twice on the podium this weekend, has increased his lead over his rivals. The SMP Racing driver keeps the lead in the overall FIA Formula 3 standings with 152 points, followed by his Prema Racing teammate Jehan Daruvala with 129 points.

“The race was quite difficult,” SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman said. “We started seventh, and on the first lap I managed to overtake several drivers and move up to fourth place. At first, I was driving safe without taking risks. Then the safety car appeared on the track - due to a rather large accident, and the safety car period was quite long. After the restart, we started a fight for second place - several cars fought for it at once. Only on the last lap I managed to break into third place. The round turned out to be positive as we scored a lot of points. We will continue to work with the same spirit. But the weekend was overshadowed by the tragedy in the FIA Formula 2 race. This is beyond words, it is really very difficult to believe what happened. No one expected such events, this is a shock. I am very worried about what happened, I want to support the Hubert family at this difficult moment. Rest in peace, Anthoine."

The seventh round of the FIA Formula 3 championship will take place on September 6-8 in Italy at the Monza circuit.
