SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman took second place in Race 1 of the sixth FIA Formula 3 round, which takes place in Belgium on the Spa Francorchamps circuit from August 30 to September 1.

During the qualifying session on Friday, Robert was classified fourth and started Saturday’s race behind three of his rivals. However, by the middle of the race, Shwartzman had a great fight, overtook two drivers ahead and built a gap away from them of more than 3 seconds and finished in second position.

“The race went very well,” SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman said. “At the start, I tried to overtake Yuki Tsunoda near Eau Rouge, but he began to attack me and at some point I realized that there was too much risk and decided to let it go. Then Leonardo Pulcini tried to attack me. We drove two turns side by side, and then he pushed me to the edge of the track. I drove on the curb, and I had to let Leonardo pass me. Therefore, at the beginning of the race I was fifth, but I was not worried, I stayed focused on my own race. My task was to save the tyres. And when I saw that my rivals in front began to build a gap away from each other, began to catch up and overtake them one by one. So I moved up to second position, and the task was to get close to the leader. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the race I lost a lot of time, so he was too far away. In any case, the race was interesting, we scored good points. Tomorrow there will be another one, and we have the same task - to break through and score as many points as possible.”

Race 2 of the sixth round will take place on Sunday, September 1, and starts at 09:45 Local time.
