SMP Racing driver Alexander Smolyar will spend the 2019 season in Formula Renault Eurocup, driving the car of the French R-ace GP team.
In 2018, the 17-year-old Alexander already competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 European Cup as a part of the French Tech 1 Racing team and finished the season twelfth.
There will be some changes in series of the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup season. Particularly, the participants will drive the new Formula Renault FR-19 car – a combination of Tatuus chassis and an Oreca 270 horsepower 1.8l turbo Renault engine.
“Last season, Alexander Smolyar made his debut in Formula Renault 2.0” said Peter Aleshin, the director of the SMP Racing Junior program. “He showed a very high speed potential, but, unfortunately, he was under a lot of pressure that made the season quite difficult, with ups and downs. However, SMP Racing believes that Alexander will do much better in his second season. He is seriously engaged, preparing both physically and psychologically during this off-season.
The era of Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 has ended, a new life has begun, with a new series - Formula Renault Eurocup. There will be a new, more powerful and heavier car that slightly equalizes the chances of drivers and teams, but at the same levels out the experience gained the previous year. Smolyar will race for another team - R-Ace GP, the undoubted leader of the series over the past two years. We will try our best to achieve the best result. These are the main goals for Alexander this year. We hope that together we will be able to fulfill them.”
