SMP Racing driver Vitaly Petrov won the Yakkima Rally on March 2 in the Republic of Karelia.
Vitaly drove together with the co-driver Dmitry Yakovchenko the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9 car, prepared by the PRO-Sport Rally team. The SMP Racing team started the first among 48 cars and completed the first special stage with the best result. Petrov and Yakovchenko also won the following seven special stages. With the total time of 40 minutes 23.5 seconds they had the best result in the overall standings hat ensured the victory for Vitaly and Dmitry in the competition.Competition was the sixth round of the Russian Rally Cup. The track was located in the vicinity of Lakhdenpokhja, where Vitaly Petrov took part in the round of the Russian Rally Championship a month earlier as well.
“I am very happy with this victory and that we finally reached the finish line without a single failure,” Vitaly Petrov said. “We won all eight special stages and are very pleased with it. I would like to say a special thanks to the whole PRO-Sport Rally team for their work and the preparation of the car and also to SMP Racing for giving me the opportunity to perform in the rally. Thanks to all the fans who came to support us. Now I will be preparing for the next race, which will take place in a week and a half - two SMP Racing cars will fight for the win in the 1000 Miles of Sebring, the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship of the 2018-2019 Super Season.”
