On July 27-28, the famous 24-hour marathon for GT3 cars takes place at Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium. The SMP Racing crew of Russian Mikhail Aleshin, Spaniard Miguel Molina and Italian Davide Rigon, driving the Ferrari 488 GT3, was classified third in the qualifying session.
Qualifying consisted of several rounds with the final part Superpole, where only twenty cars out of seventy-two with best results from previous rounds take part in. The SMP Racing crew number 72 was twelfth fastest the day before, but in the Friday session the team improved the result by almost a second and drove a lap of 2:18.806. The first three cars had very close results in the Superpole with just 0.2 seconds splitting the cars.
Another SMP Racing driver Denis Bulatov also takes part in the completion driving for the Rinaldi Racing team. According to the results of four qualifying sessions, the team’s number 333 Ferrari takes 40th place in the overall standings.
The 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race is a part of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup calendar with double points. The race will kick off on Saturday, July 27, at 16:30 Local time.
“I want to congratulate everyone in SMP Racing on another great result. This time we got in the top 3 qualifying rounds of the coolest GT3 race in the world, the 24 Hours Spa,” said Mikhail Aleshin. “The marathon is very long, it was important to show that we are fast. On the other hand, in the 24-hour race there is a lot that can happen, so the main work will begin tomorrow. The weather in Spa is hot, but the heat has lasted for many days, including practice sessions, so there were no surprises with the car’s behavior during qualifying. At the same time, the forecast for tomorrow is not predictable: for example, they promise rain and lower temperatures. The main thing is that there won’t be snow, as in May during our race in the FIA WEC.”
