SMP Racing junior driver Alexander Smolyar took a third place and a fourth place in the two races of the sixth Formula Renault Eurocup round, which took place in Germany at the Nürburgring circuit on August 30 - September 1.In the first race, Alexander started from seventh position, but by the middle of the race he had moved up to fourth place. On the last laps of the race, he made another successful attack and as a result got to the third step of the podium.
In the second Sunday race, Smolyar started from sixth place and was able to gain two positions, finishing fourth in the race, a step away from the podium. Alexander holds third place with 153 points in the overall standings of the championship.
“In the Sunday qualifying round, we were a little unlucky with yellow flags in the last sector of the last lap,” SMP Racing driver Alexander Smolyar said. “I could have got a good result, but, unfortunately, it didn’t work out and had to start from sixth position. The race, of course, was not as successful as on Saturday. I managed to gain two positions but I did not have enough pace and could not get to the podium. But we scored points, and compared with the round in Belgium, it turned out to be a good weekend. I managed to win back important points from my rivals that were higher in the drivers’ standings. Therefore, despite the fact that it was not possible to win the race, in general, everything went well and positively. We are ready to fight further.”
The seventh round of the Formula Renault Eurocup will take place on September 7-8 in Hungary at the Hungaroring circuit.
